Dumb questions about d50 v d70

If we are comparing cameras that use the same sensor why is the comparison test not done with the same lens? It would take more time but these are interchangeble lens cameras. The comparison of the 50 1.8 and the 50 1.4 seems unfair given the price of the lenses. If the d50 had gotton to wear the 1.4 and the d70 the 1.8 who would win? Is there something that I am missing.
