A2 macro question

The review of the A2 on this site says that the A2 has a macro image that's as small as 50mm x 38mm in telephoto. In the short time that I owned my A2 (now dead) I don't remember being able to get that close. Can any A2 owners confirm that you can actually fill the frame with such a small area?

I wanted to shoot closeups of small rocks & create Quicktime object movies of them revolving, but thought I needed a different camera to get that close.
