SuperFine vs. Fine, ISO50 vs. 100
Feb 1, 2006

It was a fine day out today very clear, bright and no wind - so went by my "test target" tree and took some shots varying the ISO and JPG compression settings.

This was the full frame test target and the cropped area -

I cropped the same sized area from each setting then pasted them on to a single frame - these are the actual pixels no resizing and no post processing whatsoever - other than added text to identify each crop.

ISO50 and SuperFine was used as the benchmark, and compared to ISO50 Fine, ISO100 Fine, and Landscape mode (Auto ISO) Fine

95% JPG quality was used to save the image - to minimize any degradation.

My camera is the Canon S70....

But anyone with any camera can easily do similar tests -

choose what you consider a typical but demanding subject and lighting conditions - that will remain the same/stationary over several minutes.

Then take shots varying the setting on the camera -

On the computer crop the same detailed area at 100% view and paste them next to each other and compare -

and see if there really is that much difference between SuperFine and Fine JPG, and ISO50 and 100......
