To Sigma 10-20 users: sample variation- did you exchange yours?

How many of you Sigma 10-20 users had to exchange your first bought Sigma 10-20 for a better copy? I read several opinions that one of the problems with the Sigma is sample quality variation, and that you sometimes need to go through a few copies of the lens in order to settle down.

If I were to buy it, I'm considering getting it from the States (I live in Canada), and I imagine that exchanging it would be bothersome, whereas buying it locally would be over two hundred bucks more expensive.
