Legacy Nikon speedlights

I have a pair of Nikon SB-25 speedlights that I used to use with my F100s. I purchased an SB-800 to go with my D70 and soon-to-be D200, and have used a couple of SB-800s together wirelessly for a recent "sitting on Santa's knee" shoot at a local school, and all worked well.
My question: Are the SB-25s essentially useless to me now that i have gone to digital? Is there any way I can mix the SB-25's and 800's together other than in a completely manual mode? Is there a web site that discusses this issue? As an aside, I note that the SB-800s have the connections to be wired together, but when i did this they didn't work. Do the wired connection inputs on the SB-800s have any purpose?
