S80 barrel distortion
Nov 18, 2005

Hi everyone,

I've been reading posts but it's my first time to write one. I hope I'm not asking something completely off and stupid.

I got an S80 last Wednesday, and like it a lot. Yes, it does have all the problems mentioned in the forums and reviews, but for a first digital camera for a novice like myself, it's great. Very easy to use. It's small but not too small, so the grib isn't all that bad either. The LCD, which of course should've been better with higher resolution, is big and easier to see what's going on.

But, one thing that started bothering me a lot is the barrel distotion. It's supposed to be a common problem in wide-angle lense, but since it's my first comapct digitcam, I'm not sure how much distortion is tolerable (before correcting on photoshop). It didn't bother me that much until this guy told me the distortion was so bad that it might be a defect. (?) I don't know if he knows what he's talking about (which is why I'm posting a qustion here) and I wouldn't have cared the distortion anyways, but the word "defect" is bugging me.

Both shot at F2.8. You can laugh at these ugly pictures as much as you want, but after the hearty laugh, I really hope you could tell me if the degree of barrel distortion is normal or unusual.

Thank you very much in advance!!
