Is Phil’s test unfair to D2X, favouring the 5D erroneously?

He is testing the Canon EOS 5D with a 85 mm lens. But the Nikon D2X with only a 50 mm lens.

For wildlife photographers that equals to test a 510mm with a 300mm lens. Which will show best details on a cropped subject as in Phil’s review is relevant.

The different lens choices reveal that you need heavier and more costly equipment for wildlife photographing with 5D. It also reveals that these two cameras are not directly comparable with same optics and focal lengths.

Turn the test around. Put a 85mm on the D2X and a 50mm on the 5D – and see which will give best detailing.

My opinion? The truth is that you have to do the test between the 5D and the D2X with more than one pair of different lenses to get an opinion on which camera is best on details. At least a test with the same focal length on both cameras should be done in addition to the performed test. As by now, the test is favouring the 5D erroneously.
