Sigma 100-300mm f/4: your thoughts?

Hey folks,

Recently moved from Oregon to Southern California; had to put hobbies aside for a while, but I'm almost ready to dust off my Rebel XT and start shooting.

I'm trying to decide what long lens to buy, and one piece I'm considering is Sigma's 100-300mm with constant f/4. I want to hear from those of you already using it; how's the image quality? Weight? AF performance? Let me know.
