Ahh, your name is Matthias--sorry.

From what I can tell, it looks like they are comparing an older super ccd to a newer super ccd (4th gen versus 5th gen). 40% noise reduction (for a fixed amount of power consumption) from one process generation to the next is good, but not unusual for both CMOS and bipolar processes.

If it's a design focus, I'd think Sony's next gen 7mpixel sensor will have a similar reduction in noise.
