Continuous Focus?

Does anyone find this any use at all? I have tried it out on my s7000 and now also on my new f10, it doesn't seem to be of any use at all.
Yes the camera is continuously refocusing before you go near the shutter release, which in theory should help with taking quick pictures of moving targets, but when you actually press the shutter release the camera still goes through the same old focusing sequence which takes just as long as it always does in normal AF mode.
Is this everyone's experience or am I missing something?
