I know that having shooting time on pictures such as travel pics can be really important to certain people. Here specifically if you consider Canon camera a keeper but only missing this function, I suggest to do it using certain software. Couple of software I know do this as a batch mode so not tedious at all. and with this post process option you don't have do worry about when to turn off the date function to shoot nice art stuff while turn if on the record family events (as Canon can't do that), then when you review the pics on computer, you can decide what to do with them.

I can suggest the sofeware named Turbo Photo

http://www.stepok.com/eng/index.htm

It's a Chinese originated image sofeware. It has a batch funciont of adding shooting time or other information on any place of your pictures as long as the pics still have exif info. It's really easy to do so you shall give it a try.

This is not a freeware, but it has some other really nice functions that really worth the money. The best function I think is the way it can optimize a portrait shot. Just couple of clicks and you got a really nice look portrait.

A free batch software is photocap at

You should download the 1.4 version at the very top near the download icon (I guess you won't be able to read all this page). It has English option, little bit complex but really cool batch functions including date stamp.
