Canon EF vs. Nikkor

in other forums i've read that Nikkor Lens are much cheaper than same-quality Canon Lens, for example. That Nikkor 50mm f/1.4, has much better quality than Canon EF 50mm f/1.4.
what do you think?
if that is true, then, aren't the L series better than Nikkor?
