d70 exposure & custom curves
May 4, 2005

Do you guys get what seems to be underexposed images out of camera? They sometimes look dull or flat? Is the cameras histogram peaking to the left of middle on your exposures?

When the d70 first came out many people noticed an underexposure (which is actually nikons meter biased to preserve highlights). Due to this we developed custom curves to correct the underexposure on d100's and d70's.

Are you finding this problem with your d70? When looking at your histogram (the yellow graph on your camera and in nikon capture) theres should be an even distribution with the peaks somehwere in the middle. This is a well exposed image.

Custom curves are designed to give you more accurate exposure, colour pop and contrast out of camera (in some cases to reduce the need for post processing). I have a site on this (see my sig) My latest thread on my latest curve is here : http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1034&message=13318072

Instructions on loading a custom curve here : http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1034&message=13346689

My latest curve to download here : http://homepage.ntlworld.com/dltucker/nikond70/downloads/Curves/sReala_Alphas/sReala_2alpha_010505.ntc

Last april there was loads of threads on curves and people asking about them. Now the newer users dont seem to pick up on this subject. Whats your thoughts?
