Removing the "cut filter", aka "hot mirror" from the camera renders it very sensitive to the light spectrum in IR range. The benefits are that much faster shutterspeeds are attainable, and the ability to shoot sans tripod and without motion blur. Shorter ss also means lower noise.

The lack of these filters also means the camera will be unusable for traditional photography unless a cut/hot mirror filter can be added to the lens. As far as I know, this type of filter is unavailable, and if it were, other issues may arise.
