I saw that Manfrotto makes monopods with retractable legs, has
anybody used of these before? I know it's not going to be the best
on a windy day or a very unlevel surface, but for night shots in
populated areas they look perfect:

I had one in the past, can't figure out where I lost it. grrr. But they aren't stable enough to be left unattended. They do add some stability from a shaking standpoint and you can stand or press one of the legs sometimes to get even more. But ultimately, you have a lot of camera weight way out from very short legs - they are not stable enough to depend on to keep from tipping. Handy when in restricted places or sitting down, etc..
