How do I focus in this situation?

Sometimes, you do it later.

If you don't have the light, the tripod, or the co-operative models, you can't always get all of the key elements in perfect focus. I applied USM selectively to the children's faces, using different amounts on each face, and sometimes to parts of the face. The result is below. I expect you knew about this, as your question was about focus. Anyway, it may help someone else. I hope you don't mind my editing you picture.

focus both faces in a pose like this?

Can I select two separate focus points, by any chance?

There is no friendship, no love like that of the mother for her child.
