This may qualify as a real bonehead question, but it is currently
large on my mind: What file size does the 20D generate for RAW
images? Is each RAW image the same size? I should think so but
I've been surprised before.

A RAW image inside the camera is 8.2 million pixels of 12-bits per pixel or 12.3 MBytes. This gets Huffaman coded (compressed) into "about" 8.2 MBytes. Images of pure blue sky will pack down considerably, while images of newpaper print will not. I have a RAW image of over 10.3 MBytes and one below 5.5 MBytes.
