Help! 300 2.8 "fEE" error...

I just purchased a 300 2.8 from a phtotographer in Michigan. I recieved the lens this morning (via, C.O.D.) and moutned to my D70 only to see an "fEE" error flashing on the screen. I checked on one of my old film bodies, and got the same error. I know this error is for when the apetrure ring is not liocked in place, but it was locked on the minimum apetrue. It seems that the camera and lens are not communicating throught the contacts either due to them being dirty or malfunctioning. What should I do? Does anyone have experience with a similar situation? Any ideas on what nikon would charge to have this fixed? Should I just return the lens and get my money back?
