Sony microdrives - what's the point?

Microdrives made a lot of sense when flash was expensive. Though they were relatively fragile and power hungry, they offered mass storage for a much lower price. I can't figure out their purpose now. A quick check of Pricegrabber shows 4gb CF cards to be available for as low as $269. Since that is the price point of the new Sony microdrives, it seems like there is no niche anymore for the things. Do microdrives offer any advantage over flash now that the cost and size advantages are gone?
