In 2003, the site was renamed Rob Galbraith Digital Photography Insights, to emphasize our mandate of providing reliable, practical and we hope insightful information on digital photography.

Earlier this month, I accepted a photojournalism instructor position at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) here in Calgary. SAIT is home to one of Canada's premiere visual journalism programs, and I'm excited that the teaching of future Canadian photojournalists will be my full-time gig starting in a few week's time. In November 2011, we published a roundup of some of the light stand mounting methods available for the Paul C. Buff Vagabond Mini Lithium portable power pack. It included a homegrown solution developed by photographer James Burke, one that we really liked but lacked the tools and skill to make ourselves. Burke has solved that problem, by turning his custom clamp into a product that's now available for purchase. show less

We were recently alerted to an iOS app called Sun Scout, which superimposes a graphical representation of the sun's future position on a scene captured by your iPhone's camera. If, for example, you are scouting a shooting location, Sun Scout will plot and display the sun's path, for a date and range of times that you specify, on the image of the scene as captured by your camera. show less

Beta firmware v6.104 adds support for the Speedlite 600EX-RT and Speedlite Transmitter ST-E3-RT.
