Life is like a box of chocolates
Challenge series hosted by LeeStar. Challenges start on Fridays.
... and so is this series. Each challenge will be different. I hope to create challenges that are just a bit different from the usual fare, with rules that are as simple and easy to understand as I can make them. My focus is on having fun, and learning and improving our craft. Questions and comments are always welcome, and will be answered asap. There will be a thread on the Challenge Forum for that, and you can also contact via PM and in the specific challenge comments.

Sometimes we have an image we're really proud of that we think is excellent...then, enter in a challenge only to find it did poorly. We may wonder, am I wrong and it's not really as good as I thoughtt? Or maybe it just didn't fit as well as we thought in the particular challenge. Or perhaps that challenge was filled with such excellent images that the competition was very tough. Here's a...

Today is Friday the 13th. What does that mean to you? Submit a photo that you think fits the Friday the 13th theme. Creativity encouraged. I'm taking about the superstition, a day believed to be bad luck. It's mainly a belief in the West, and some countries use other days (in Spanish speaking countries it's said to be Tuesday the 13th). If confused, you can start with the Wiki entry: ...

Some examples: If you're a nature photog who doesn't do people photography, take a portrait. If you don't like cats, photograph one. Hate spiders? 3. Film Noir
Winners announced: 17th February, 2012 GMT
Winner: We're Being Followed!
Enter a photo that has a film noir 'look' to it. Noir is stark contrasts, dramatic shadow patterning, side or from-below lit subjects, perhaps dark dirty alleys, gloomy rain, venitian blinds and other straight lines & shadows emphasized. If you like movies of the 40's and 50's you're probably familiar with the style. Although traditionally b&w, moody noir-images can also be shot in color,...
Winners announced: 10th February, 2012 GMT
Winner: Abstract Vulcano
Definition from Wiki: "Abstract art uses a visual language of form, color and line to create a composition which may exist with a degree of independence from visual references in the world." Anything goes, whatever you think is visually appealing. Many samples can be found by googling 'abstract photography' images. I've provided a few quick samples, but I'm sure most entries will be much...
Winners announced: 3rd February, 2012 GMT
Winner: peaches and cream...-2
It's about the song from "The Sound of Music." Pick a 'favorite thing' from the song, and capture a photo of it. Extra kudos to you if your subject is one of the more unique ones rather than shots we've seen many times (it would get boring if every entry was dew on a rose). You don't have to look up the lyrics, here's the list to pick from: Raindrops on roses -- Whiskers (on kittens) --...
