Extreme Telephoto

Challenge #4 in the Our World and Beyond series. Hosted by JamesD28.
Challenge has finished
Sometimes our subject is just too small and/or too far away to photograph. Sometimes we might choose to move closer to it, but most of the time we will, instead, use the telephoto lenses. Use this challenge to present your best photo which was taken at an extreme telephoto setting, preferably of something which would not be possible to photograph by other means. Macro shots are welcome provided they comply with the rules.

Taken: Wednesday, 25th February, 2009
Focal length: 600 mm
Shutter speed: 1/320 sec
Aperture: F5.6
ISO: 200
Notes: Shot in a screened enclosure. With a stack of extension tubes, the extreme loss in DOF allowed the lens to "focus around" the front fence of the enclosure and focus on the bird's face. (The only evidence that the screen enclosure exists is in that tiny starburst in the hawk's eye.)
