Magazine editorial: A test of faith

Challenge #123 in the The Art Director series. Hosted by jezsik.

A glossy magazine, known for its thorough examination of social issues, is about to print an article about faith in the twenty first century and requires an illustration. The tricky part is that the article does not focus on religion so they don't want a stereotypical religious image. The editors are hard-pressed to come up with solid examples of what they want, but images of people looking thoughtful or doubtful or troubled certainly seem to appeal to them. They're open to more natural images, but stress they really want to include the human element.
