This is a typical wood carving from the Indonesian Island of Bali. Unlike the rest of Indonesia, Bali’s culture is strongly influenced by Hinduism and this is reflected in the artifacts that the island has become famous for. This piece, of Ram and Sita, is carved out from the trunk of a “crocodile” tree, so named in view of the sharp pikes that make up its bark.
