Although dangerously outdated at the start of the Battle of Britain the Gloster Gladiator was still in service with 247 Squadron stationed at Rodborough in Devon and even intercepted a Heinkel 111 in October 1940. During the B o B period they also served in the army co-operation role with 239 Squadron and in the Fleet Air Arm with 804 Squadron.
