Thank you very much, Wildebegonia! I do not believe my shot is the best, but I don't think the rankings are fair and I frankly don't understand what people are thinking when they giving negative votes!... Winning or losing are not so important because there is nothing to gain or to lose; but I am just curious to know what goes through people's mind!... :-) There are so many "average" shots in this first page; and so many much better shots in the following pages!
I always disliked our challenge system because of bad hosts, cheating and sandbagging!

A lot of images in this challenge do not portrait the action of "shopping", rather they are about merchandise display or store display where the actual shopper is absent. The word shopping implies an action by someone therefore a human being (or a monkey grabbing bananas :) ), Now as for the description "what do you see when you see shopping" implies merchandise. There is a contradition between the title of the challenge (too broad as well) and its description (renders it limited)
Some more clarity needed in and for the future....

I do not want to brag about it, but when I saw this image during the voting period, I was sure it belong to L-objectif. So sad it scored so low, it is my favorite and I was sure it was a sure winner. For me this images gathers best the idea of 'shopping' as in the title and as for the description of the challenge. I find it works great in B &W, love the division of the image right almost at the middle between the 'dream/desire/illusion' (ad photo on the left) and the reality of actually getting what you want (shoppers on the right with shopping bags) and displaying it.

It’s really very frustrating seeing those low votes. Your photo is not the only object of this “favouritism”. Most of the entries have these kinds of votes.
Your photo was one of my 3 favourites in this challenge (might it cheers you :)). I liked the 7th placement too. The winner photo might not transmit the perfect feeling of shopping but it is still a very nice photo. (it would be interesting to discuss some more entries but it’s not my intention now)

To the second part of your comment: unfortunately we never know who and why have put these votes. They might be just poor devil. Your comment implies that they could be the winner. I know you don’t mean that way but that is also a possible reading of it. I rather believe that they never win such a way. And if they happen to win, who cares? They still remain poor devils.

I also very much like the winner shot and think it is beautiful, although not 100% on theme. By no means I had in mind that photographer to have anything to do with negative voting... Sorry if my wording suggested that way. I was rather talking in general; I see this frustrating pattern in almost every challenge and blame it mostly to the system we have, and then to hosts who are not serious about their own rules and themes!
