The living have to eat to go on living. That single aspect is the most powerful motivation - equally to humans and to other beings. However, while we humans apparently see no end in complicating the issue, the animals use the most direct way to achieve the same goal. Whatever we call it, the ultimate truth remains: there is no life without death. Show us an animal with the prey it has caught.
