Yes I know water vapour turns into condensation in the cold air and is mixed with smke but it is there at the start!And there is air as the host says.

Yes it is hard to beat sun, snow and steam but those with a reflection is better still.

Thanks, folks. It was taken of the Heber Valley Railway in Utah. It was only my second year of proper digital photography and I was still amazed I could take pictures on the wrong side for the light to aid composition and still be able to have more than a black blob in the middle of a slide. It still delights me!

Don't get me wrong: i still love the slide colours! (But that hard contrast just kills so MANY possibilities!)
