A popular press magazine is publishing an article about libraries and needs an appropriate image. The client prefers something that concentrates on the books, as their physical future is in doubt, but will accept images of libraries so long as the reader will immediately recognize the building as such. The client does not want images of computers or other high-tech features common to many libraries today, but more traditional or nostalgic images.

This photo was hovering around third place for most of the voting; nice to see it pull ahead in the end. While I think it's an excellent choice for top spot, I can't help wishing the color had been tweaked. While I like a warm image, this one could stand a bit less temperature and certainly a tweak to the curves. Congrats!

Thanks Jezsik, I appreciate your comment and I perfectly agree with you. The original image was even warmer and "reddish" for the kind of wood of the library and the many leather bound old book. Even the one you see open doesn't have any really white page! The best I could do was to reduce the saturation and the temperature. I applied some vignetting too for darkening a little the wood of the library.

Thank you Steve for your compliments. The choice of F22 is because I wanted an all in focus picture but not a sharp one. This for a better rendering of the "nostalgic" and "fading away" concept. The lens I used at smaller apertures than F16 produces focused but slightly soft images (sort of soft focus filter effect but much less evident), so I used the weakness of that lens at my advantage... ;-)

Nice technique! F22, all in focus, but soft due to diffraction. Very clever! :-)
