Hover Flies (Flower Flies)
Challenge has finished
This challenge is just about hover flies, (Syrphid Flies), NOT bees, wasps, spiders etc. Hover flies look like bees, but are much smaller, and they have very different life styles. They DON'T collect pollen on their back legs, DON'T live in hives, DON'T have bee-like antennae, and they DON'T sting.
Drone flies, (Eristalinae sub-species,) with spotted or striped eyes, are also welcome to be entered.
The hover flies must be outside, on flowers, leaves, hovering around, or just doing what hover flies do; NOT under studio lights. Macro shots welcome. Google hover flies; or go to http://bugguide.net/node/view/196/bgpage
SIZE: 1,600px MAXIMUM ON LONGER SIDE.
