Mmh. Is there a Portuguese equivalent of the English expression "Damned with faint praise"?!
I think shake is the least of the problems. It was focussed on the aircraft before it turned and was also on manual exposure set for an earlier shot. The original was slightly out of focus, over exposed and as you say taken on old entry level equipment. It is cropped down quite a lot to give the more interesting composition (the aircraft is central on the original,) and of course part of the aircraft is distorted by the heat from the afterburners.
The nature of the DPR website means the challenges tend to be won by pictures that have impact when small and so allow good composition on poor equipment to compete against images taken on better equipment.
