The West Coast Wilderness Railway in Strahan, Tasmania, is a restoration railway built originally in 1896 to haul copper up rugged ascents. Dr Roman Abt, a Swiss engineer, invented the world's most widely used rack and pinion (cogs) system first used in Germany in 1885.
