Take a BW wide angle scenic silhouette or partial silhouette shot of a tree between dawn and dusk. No Panoramas please. Put a Border and Title on the photograph. Please also watermark the capture date (correct to the month) somewhere on the photo.

Do not cut out / replace the background.
Strictly no sepia or color tint please.

Auguri! e cosi bella, and well compoused. Ben meritato specialmente in questo Challenge Olympico fra tantti vincitori, e un colpo ti buona sorte che il host a svagliato nel numero di entrate acetate. Mi piace come sei riucitto al scrito nella foto che questo non interferisce con la imagine.

Hi Wildbegonia,
thanks for your kind words and for expressing them in such an effective way in Italian.
Competing in a challenge reserved to challenge winners is attractive for a photonarcisist like me, but the challenge itself, because of the peculiar topic and the lack of constraining rules does not promote an absolute confrontation of talent and experience. May the host forgive me for saying this.

What it does is compare the image databanks of a limited selection of entrants: if someone who has won a challenge has also one (very rare) image with just one tree in a very undistracting background he’s more than halfway to the top.

The rest is postprocessing, and with the assist played by the host in asking B&W, the degree of manipulation to make the tree look as lonesome as can be, of local contrast and exposure for example, can be high without showing up at all. (cont...)

...So I was lucky, not as you say for the host’s tolerance in accepting more entrants but because I had such an image, and because I physically enjoy postprocessing.

Summicron’s entry is a far better image than mine, it’s a typical good photograph but it doesn’t lend itself to postprocessing, it is technically so good that one is on one side already satisfied and on the other inhibited in fear of desacralizing it.
