The "Miracle Staircase" of the Loretto Chapel in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Built in the late 1800's, by an unknown carpenter who showed up and built it in 6-8 months. There is no record of him requesting pay for the work. It has no center support, and was not attached to the wall. The railing was added later by a local craftman after the sisters complained of being terrified of climbing the stairs. Engineers have studied it and still wonder how he did it.
