An Unpretentious Holiday

Challenge #6 in the Unpretentious series. Hosted by emccrory.

It seems to me that the Christmas and Hanukkah season oftentimes devolves into ostentatious displays of wealth, gifting, over-the-top decorations and selfishness. In my humble opinion, the unpretentious aspects of the holidays--family, friends, coziness--are the best parts.

Submit you best shots of an unpretentious holiday.

Voting Please select the entry that best depicts the phrase, "An Unpretentious Holiday." Also, in the spirit of this series, please consider giving a higher vote to the photographs that are shot with less expensive equipment.

My family of 7 lives in a small, yet 'cozy' apartment. During Hannukah each year, we find place on the single large windowsill that faces the street area for everyone to muscle their menorah in front of the window. In some ways, it is a reflection of how we live all year long--crowded by happy. Nothing elaborate here--no time for that in life--just the youngest child lighting her Menorah while being lovingly helped by two of her older sisters. Taken with a humble $200 point-and-shoot camera--no fancy equipment--that has made it through everything from rainstorms to children's holiday performances at school. Pretty much straight out of camera. Enjoy, and happy holidays to all--whatever you celebrate in your heart. Peace.
