The image is pretty. The colors are nice. But it doesn't have a lasting impact. If you want to take a nice sunset shot that speaks for itself it should be technically better. Focus should be sharper. The bird seems arbitrary. It is uncomfortably positioned on the horizon, creating an odd tangent that flattens the image and confuses the intent.

I agree with the last comment. Bird ether should cross the sun with this size or big in size to fill frame.

3 1/2 because it's a good looking shot but I think it would have been better if the gull wasn't so dark, and maybe larger in the frame.

If it was mine id move the bird up and right so its flying into the frame and not cutting the horizon

The hurried circumstances is really noticeable in the shot. I think you could have done a lot better than this. That said, still a very nice overall result.

Pretty good shot considering the circumstances really. :) I like the complementary colors and the decent composition. What is most unfortunate though is the silhouette being cut by the horizon - which you probably should straighten by the way, even though it's just off by 0.3 degrees.

As others already have pointed out, the lack of a true focal point is a bit disturbing in the larger version of the picture, but it's hard to get right with one hand on the phone. :P

In the thumb and mid sized display I think your shot is superb. The seagull makes it so much more than "just" a sunset shot. However, when I look at the full size image the motion blur takes away from the shot's impact. I think printed at 3x5 size I'd rate it a 5, but at 8x10 size I'd only give it a 3.

Great light and beautiful colors too...In my opinion the bird is in a strange position,but obviously the hurried conditions didn't helped you :-)

Well shot..particularly in that light. The horizon cutting the bird is a little distracting, but then unless you trained this one .. you take what you can get. :)

I preferred Silhouettes for this & maybe at less aperture around 6 or 7..nice timing

Great timing on this! I think the bird would have looked better if it was either in the sun or over the water rather than split between the two. Reminds me of a standing on a pier in Southern California

Bird on horizon - nicely done, and different, interesting capture. I may have cropped it a little more to give more prominence to the silhouette.

Great shot, worth the effort it took it get it. I like how the two totally different colors compliment each other: the blue of the ocean with the orange sunset. I think it would have been better if the gull was closer/larger in the photo, but of course that wasn't possibly as you were lucky to get the shot at all.

I like the compostion (semi rule of thirds), although the bird would have stood out better against the sky rather than the horizon. Although I fully realize the technical limits, I don't like the motion blur of the background, because such a nice sunset deserves to be sharp.

No exif data - but thanks for providing the exposure information. It helps us learn. Vivid colors here, and the bird is flying into the frame - that's good. Pretty good composition, considering that you were distracted by a phone call.

A gottcha moment! Had you more time and less distractions, having the dark bird against the sky from a slightly lower view point (if possible) might have been better? The bird was well caught though at 1/350 sec. The sun maybe a bit bright as when seen in the larger format some of the pixels appear burnt out?

It captured solitude for me, rather than speed.
