The Space Shuttle

Challenge #6 in the Living Life series. Hosted by maddogmd11.
Challenge has finished
Last week ended the era of Space Shuttle flights. The shuttle itself was, at the time it was built, the most technologically advanced machine ever built. As a tribute to the program and to those folks that lived their lives helping to design, develop and fly this spacecraft post your best Shuttle shots.

This is a shot looking northeast from Honolulu, Hawaii on July 20, 2011 at 5:15 AM local time, approximately 19 hours before the shuttle successfully landed. The right streak is Atlantis (which flew by first), and the left streak is the International Space Station, from which the shuttle just undocked from. The tiny streak in the middle right of the image is Venus. This is probably one of the last photos ever of both the shuttle and ISS together.
