Submit a photograph of patterns, forms, textures, or colors; without much of any particularly discernible subject. -- This can be the texture of sand on a beach, the pattern of windows on a skyscraper, tree bark, the curve of a figure, or any subject that lacks much detail. Abstraction can be interesting as a pure exercise in composition or expression, or, abstract textures can be used to enhance pictorialist images.

These photos can either be straight, or be post-processed to enhance abstraction.

Additional rules:

You can consider two approaches: either photograph the repeating detail of a manufactured object, or capture the natural texture of an organic form.
If you have a regularly repeating pattern, be sure that it compositionally fits in well relative to your image frame. For example, a 3x2 pattern of squares would best fit into a 3:2 aspect ratio image.
Your subject ought to be flat, or there ought to be little sense of depth.
Avoid capturing detail that shatters the illusion of abstraction, like a bird or trees in the same frame as the wall of a building.
Simple composition works best here.
High contrast lighting can help increase the abstract quality of your image.
