Could be a thunderstorm has just dissipated leaving behind the ice crystals. Fascinating photo.

This is a very nice capture of a hole punch cloud. In the sky there is a layer of Altocumulus stratiformis perlucidus and for some reason, ice crystal nucleation has been initiated in the supercooled cloud droplets in the layer. Thus, a nice hole punch is created. Did you notice that an aeroplane flew through the cloud layer just before the hole appeared?
