The wonders of nature - photographed in the local conservation area.The barred owl has a very keen sense of hearing and uses the feathers on her face disc to help focus sound to her ears. Here the owl has heard something of interest in the distance and you can see how the feathers are spread out to form more of a dish shape to gather sound. The area she was focusing her sight on was several hundred yards away so I am guessing their senses are much more acute than mine.
