An annual Norwegian tradition. Every village, town and city gathers together and burns a large mound of wood. It dates back to the pagan days, and was once seen to have magic power to drive back the witches and other forces of evil that were thought to be particularly active on mid summers eve. It was also thought that the purging of the old by burning it was key to fertile crops. Re-named to honor St. John from the bible. I have to wonder what he would think of this.
