Panoramas

First off--great shot. How many images did you composite for this pano? What stitching software did you use?

I am very puzzled by the 400 ISO. I've always operated on the belief that--all things being equal--you pick the lowest ISO, to get the highest quality (those rare situations where you intentionally want the noise of a very-high ISO does not apply in this case).

I only go up in ISO when I can't get a "normal" exposure at ISO 100. In your case, if you had shot at ISO 100, your exposure would have been 1/160 at the same f-stop of f/9. You mentioned that you used your own pano head (ie, you were using a tripod), so having a high shutter speed was not relevant. And nothing in the scene was fast-moving (eg, birds, cars, etc.), so I have been thinking and thinking of why it was so important to bump up to 1/640. My (little) brain is stumped. 1/160 is way more than enough to freeze the mist/fog. Hmmm.

A real mystery. :-)

Yes Dennis, this is the Murray, just upstream from Mannum at a place called Walker Flat. There are 2 lookouts, one either side of the river, this was taken from Maynard's.
