A great shot

I used Lightroom (2 or later) and went around him with the desaturation brush. In photoshop a person could make a desaturated layer and erase the mask where they boy is so the color shows through.

I am normally not a fan of selective desaturation either, but thought it worked well in this case, cut down on the distractions from the background and emphasized the rain coat (which was the topic of the contest).

Wow, I've never seen such a large gap between First Place and the rest of the field. I tend to hate the selective desaturation, but I have to admit that your technique was spot-on. Great job!
