Composition: Fill the Frame!

Beginning photographers have a tendency to keep well back from their subject. The acronym SCUFI (Shoot Close-Up For Impact) was coined to remind novices to get in close and fill the frame. Using a STANDARD FOCAL LENGTH lens (between 35mm and 65mm equivalent), demonstrate your ability to get in and fill the frame with your subject. Be careful not to crowd the frame, just get in close to prove you're not afraid of the subject. (Note Additional rules.)

Processing rules:

Basic image cleanup only (but retouch as required)
No borders or watermarks (e.g. signature)
Minimum cropping (if you have to crop it, you weren't close enough).

Capture date rules:

No restrictions.

Additional rules:

No macro or extreme close-ups (too easy)
No telephoto lenses (no lenses longer than ~65mm)
No wide-angle lenses (no lenses wider than ~35mm)
The subject must be something that affords close proximity. Large objects (e.g. ships, buildings, trees) are all poor subjects because you must stand back to see them.

Although the colors are bright at a fair, I decided to shoot in dynamic black and white. Like most kids, my son is fascinated by bikes and you can see he really enjoyed this ride!
