It's a strong photo. Maybe not entirely about "Shoes", because it's not primarily "shoes" that drew my attention. But it's definitely powerful photo. Well done!

Great photo. What makes it for me is the child's expression. I think we all can relate to the feeling of "what do I do?/what's going to happen?/I have to be careful" in his eyes.

To some extent I agree with Eric. While this is a good photo, I don't think it is a winner. The odd number of 5 star votes raises questions. Similarly, but even more strangely, check the vote distribution for the #5 ranked photo. What's going on????

I voted for this and number 5. Although I am pleased this won the challenge. Maybe I am a romantic but this tell a story to me, I like photos to do that, go beyond just the image, make me ask questions about what came before and what will come after. Art for Art's sake is just that, self serving and without true social value. This is a great shot!!

Perhaps the only, and maybe fleeting, possession of this child. This is a stunning photo showing so much worry where there should be a countenance of the joy of childhood.
