The Birdwatcher

This was shot at the river Doubs in the French/Swiss borders, forming some small lakes. Thanks everyone for the kind words, I didn't even know this forum existed! Regarding the DR and the vivid colors, the photo was taken so that no highlights were clipped and then the darker parts (that were quite dark as a result of preventing the highlights) were brought up again using Capture NX and CS2. (But with some self restrain as it 's too easy to overdo it...)
Don't forget that there was some fantastic light at the scene which is the No1 ingredient in good photos.

I agree this shot should have been number one. As far as the complaints regarding the color, I think this is just a perfect example of a great landscape and the Velvia look. This is what a lot of landscape photographers look for, high contrast and color saturation. That's why Velvia was so popular with landscape shooters. BRAVO on a stunning shot. I'm utterly flabbergasted at the amount sheer beauty.

And you'll never get it... :) so stop trying. It's all in post processing, although you need a technically good image to start with, to get this result. But I think this is a bit overdone. I like this better, it is more natural >> http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k186/alexring_bucket/Dubs3.jpg

Beautiful pic!

I've been trying for a while now to get a good dynamic range like we have here straight out of the camera but I have never managed and I am getting very depressed. How much post-processing have you put into this? I just don't know if it's my camera that's responsible for my flat images.

No offense to No. 1, which is beautiful, but this one was awesome for the category. How this got two 0.5 scores is a crime. Great photo, and should have been No. 1 hands down.
