The 6-megapixel Nikon D40, sometimes maligned on Dpreview forums but reviewed quite well elsewhere, is a very popular DSLR. On Flickr alone, the D40 is, among all Nikons, the second most popular camera: Flickr counts 30 million items (only the D80 bests it at 43 million). And Nikon.com still lists it. Submit your best D40 shot. No restrictions on subject matter (or lens). But: EXIF must accompany your photo, else I'll disqualify it.

A photograph of cockle fishermen working in winter at low tide on the dangerous sands of Morecambe Bay in NW England. Shortly after this photo was taken we had one of the heaviest rainstorms I've ever seen. Taken in December of 2007, this was one of my first ever photos with my then brand new D40 yet it's still one of my favourites.

|Focal length:||13 mm|
|Shutter speed:||1/1000 sec|
|Notes:||The low f4.8 fstop was a lucky mistake. Normally I'd have set it to f8 but in retrospect I'm pleased that the shutter speed was so high as the sand in this area is extremely soft and a firm footing was impossible - I could feel myself slowly sinking into the sand each time I stood still to take a photo!|
