Winner: Laser light
Laser Light Challenge finished on Friday, 18 Oct 2013 Lasers are quantum mechanical wonders that have come to have many uses, even in everyday life. Scientists and engineers use them because they have useful properties such as being monochromatic (spectrally pure), collimated (highly directional and tightly concentrated for long distances), and coherent (all their waves in phase, so able to form diffraction patterns). As a photographer, we can use laser light to capture something interesting, whether it is a glowing representation of modern technology, or a cool play of light not possible with ordinary sources. For this challenge, photos are invited which feature some illumination by laser light as a creative element in the scene.

Most of the Middle East: Non-portraits only Challenge finished on Thursday, 17 Oct 2013 I have no idea how many or how few people have been to these countries, so I am combining the following countries into this challenge: (1) Saudi Arabia; (2) Iraq; (3) Iran; (4)Yemen); (5) Qatar; (6) Oman; (7) the UAE; and (8) Kuwait. There will be separate challenges in a few weeks, for Israel; Egypt; Turkey; Jorday; and Syria & Lebanon--since it's my sense that we'll find more DPR members with photos of those reigons. For this challenge, I will start with my usual limit of 35 entries. But if it fills up quickly, I will make an exception and will increase the number of entries. As usual for my challenges, Entrants are required to (1) vote for each other entry, (2) read the comments (if any) below this challenge, in case I or other entrants post with Rules questions or clarifications, and (3) follow each of the challenge rules...including voting WITHIN THE FIRST SIX DAYS of the challenge. Last week we did portraits; this week will cover everything else.
