Textures & Overlays
Challenge finished on Monday, 19 Oct 2009
A central subject can sometimes be enhanced or transformed using overlays and overlaid or integrated textures. This is a process that began in the film era and is made easier, although not necessarily better, by digital post processing. Please read the rules carefully and study the examples before submitting. You should select a central/main subject and then transform it or enhance it by using appropriate overlays and/or textures. The central or main image must be clearly identifiable. NOTE TO VOTERS: Please evaluate these images at normal or large size. The fine detail of textures will not be visible using only the thumbnail.

Crowd Shot
Challenge finished on Sunday, 18 Oct 2009
Sometimes, the best stories during an event or performance are found somewhere other than the event itself. Video directors covering events regularly call for a "crowd shot" to show reactions to what is happening. Share your own "Crowd Shot" from an event or performance (it doesn't have to be an organized event. It can be something like people watching a housefire or other newsworthy event). It can be the entire group of spectators, a single person, or any number of people in between. The important thing is to show how they are reacting to what they are observing. Please include a brief description of the event or performance being observed. Please take the time to read, understand and comply with the additional rules. Thanks.

Beautiful Mistakes: Serendipity
Challenge finished on Saturday, 17 Oct 2009
Sometimes you focus your lens on one thing but end up with an image of something entirely unexpected. It may be due to an incorrect setting (e.g. mis-focused) or something happening within the frame that you couldn't anticipate (e.g. a new element entered the frame). For this challenge, describe the shot you had intended and explain how the resulting image differs. This is not about how the subject suddenly moved or changed (e.g. the subject made a funny face at you), but how something totally fortuitous occurred. Important, you MUST provide an explanation or be disqualified (see additions rules).

Moment of Impact

Noise
Challenge finished on Friday, 16 Oct 2009
Submit an image where there is noise involved- e.g. plate breaking, gun firing, balloon popping. Please avoid submitting images with noisy implements (drills, vacuum cleaner) or noisy things (like cars, airplanes). We don't want to see things that make noise. Rather the image should capture the moment the noise is being created and convey this noise. Please do not include any people or animals in the image. For this challenge, the image must be taken AFTER the announcement date of the challenge. Note: Any complaints about the entries, must be submitted ONLY during the submission phase. Once the submission phase ends and voting starts, complaints will not be entertained.

Camouflage Frog
Jim Block Photo
puzzle
Challenge finished on Thursday, 15 Oct 2009
Please propose the photo for The Most Difficult Puzzle. 'The most difficult' is crucial but remember that the photo must be interesting as well (i.e. puzzle with a single tiled roof would be hard to put together but extremally boring so I would prefere an aerial view of whole town/city with hundred tiled roofs). Please do not submit photos for regular puzzle (sunset, sunrise, horse, dog, cat, flower, castle, girl, dolphin, car or any other corny or fabulous stuff). Do not submit photos with plain surfaces (i.e. blue sky or just single color) or grainy patterns (i.e. sand or starry sky). Be reasonable and keep the balance between 'hard' and 'entertaining'. Please read ALL additional and post-processing rules.
