In Motion: Tracking, zooming Challenge finished on Saturday, 19 Sep 2009 While commonplace in cinema, a forward or backward motion with a still camera is quite difficult to accomplish and seldom seen. Done properly, the motion streaks create an almost surrealistic tunneling effect. To accomplish this shot, use a slow shutter speed while you and your subject move in synchronization going forward or backward. A similar effect is achieved by changing the focal length of a zoom lens during a long exposure. For this challenge, show us your best tracking/zooming shot, but make sure the effect is ostentatious!! (Note Additional rules!)
Winner: China / Guangxi / Yangshuo
Summer 2009 Challenge finished on Saturday, 19 Sep 2009 Summer is almost over for 2009. Show you best summer pictures.
Winner: Kernow Forever
Foveon Landscapes! Challenge finished on Saturday, 19 Sep 2009 Show us your very best Landscape -- and Seascape -- photographs taken with a camera that uses a Foveon sensor. The challenge is to depict 'Realism' and the natural 'mood' of the scene. The 'Insight' aspect of the challenge is to demonstrate your understanding and mastery of this sometimes demanding technology. For those who aren’t technically minded about these matters: Most digital cameras use a Bayer sensor, which captures red, green and blue light (RGB) using a Colour Filter Array -- one colour at each photosite. The Foveon sensor captures RGB at each and every photosite. This is a very different way of capturing an image that produces pictures with great colour depth and sharpness. For more information, see: http://www.dpreview.com/learn/?/key=sensors
Winner: Moments of Decision

In 'n Out Challenge finished on Friday, 18 Sep 2009 Post an image that consists of two images (merge them into one, either side by side or top/ bottom in Photoshop or another software). So the submitted photo will consist of two images. Both these images will be taken from the EXACT same spot- one of them will be taken at the wide end of your zoom lens and the other taken at the telephoto end of your zoom lens. The idea is to see how well you can compose a subject from the exact same spot at differing focal lengths. For the purpose of this challenge, please don't include any people or animals. All complaints relating to this challenge must be made before voting begins. Once voting is underway, complaints will not be entertained. Have fun!
Distorted Reality Challenge finished on Thursday, 17 Sep 2009 Reality can be so boring, so let's change it. The keyword in this challenge is something we normally try to avoid: distortion. A mild form could be accomplished by a special lens, such as a fish eye, but also by post processing. I strongly suggest to do some serious post processing in order to make your image stand out of the crowd.
Winner: Desmond in Martin Place
icon portrait Challenge finished on Thursday, 17 Sep 2009 Please create the icon. An icon portait of a person (a human - not the animals, plants etc.). Only one person should be visible in the picture and it can't be only a face - show us at least the bust and two hands. And the most important - give it this spiritual flavour. No snapshots - I will be ruthless and disqualify them. Please read Additional rules.
